About Riab Bregen
Name and Intent
"Riab" echoes regeneration; "Bregen" nods to the Bergmannstraße studio where the practice began in 2016. Founders met while retrofitting a 1904 Mietskaserne courtyard flat that had seven owners' worth of mismatched layers.
Brutalist Method
We publish plans in monospace type because ambiguity costs money in Berlin trades. Every line on a floor plan corresponds to a physical object with SKU or rental contract number.
Clients receive plain-language rationales, not influencer captions. If a wall cannot move, we say so on page one.
Regeneration vs Renovation
We never touch wiring or load-bearing removal. Regeneration means reassigning rooms, upgrading light, and editing furniture until daily routes feel intentional.
Altbau stucco and Dielen floors remain; we design around their patina instead of hiding it behind drywall boxes.
Neighbourhood Focus
Most projects sit within cycling distance of Bergmannstraße: Kreuzberg 61, northern Neukölln, and eastern Schöneberg blocks with similar ceiling heights.
We document common Bauordnung constraints so repeat clients in the same Hinterhaus typology move faster through approvals.
Collaborators
Independent electricians and curtain makers work from our dimensioned sketches. We do not markup their invoices; coordination hours appear as a separate line item.
